Importance of Sleep to Our Bodies

You already know that sleep is an essential activity in our daily lives that must never be missed out on. And you most probably already know that most of us do not get enough of it. If you are one of the millions who are not getting sufficient sleep, then you may already know what your missing or lacking in your life, don't you?

But just in case you have not realized what you really are missing due to sleep deprivation, here is a surprisingly varied list of those.

1. Energy - sleep is the best way for us to recharge. So this is pretty much self explanatory. If you miss out on sleep or lack sleep, then you lose essential energy which you need to carry on with the day's chores and various activities.

Our energy levels and our capacity to function normally are associated with the amount of sleep we got. Sleep lets our bodies rest and prepare sufficiently for the next day's challenges. 2. Strong immune system - the necessity of recharging is not just the main reason behind the importance of sleep. If you lack sleep or become sleep deprived, you will lack a strong immune system which has the ability of regrouping and fighting sicknesses better.

Sleep aids our immune system in regrouping and strengthening its ability to fight against antibodies that can bring us sickness. Much researches have been conducted wherein it was found that those who do not have sufficient sleep tends to become more susceptible to illnesses and recovers slower from injuries and sickness as compared to those who are getting enough amount of sleep.

3. Mental well-being - depression and other mental issues can be experienced by people who do not get enough sleep. Missing sleep means losing your mental well-being. You will have decreased capacity in coping with anxiety, stress, and other issues. Because of mental problems, your lack of rest may become aggravated and worsen into a severe case.

4. Long life - sleep helps us to achieve longer lives. There have been studies conducted wherein people who actually get seven or more hours of sleep each night live longer than those who do not. If you do not get enough sleep, your body has the tendency of wearing than faster than it should and you will not have the chance to live longer.

Remember that sleep is not something that should be put aside. It is an issue that must not be taken lightly. Everything in our lives can be adversely affected by the amount of sleep we get every day. Do not fall into thinking that sleep is just an unproductive activity in your life and take it for granted.
